Australian Nationals Recap
Every year the 5 star rated Australian National Championship is held in Melbourne, Victoria, as apart of the AFBJJ circuit. It is one of the biggest events of the year and the Galeb Brothers BJJ competitors who flew south to represent did not disappoint.
Leading the pack, Greg Kerrisk was dominating the brown belt division and ended his weekend with 3 golds (no gi weight & absolute and gi weight). After being put up a weight division, he still managed to come out victorious. So close to four gold medals, after a very tough match in the gi absolute.
Purple belt light-featherweight, Sean Macfarlane, had a very tough bracket to get through. With three fights to win his first ever Australian national title, he gave 100% and tore through the division to become champion. Next month, Sean has a super fight on the Gold Coast. 10 minute submission only in the gi.
Blue belts, Jess Eve & Emmanuel Fallah from Galeb Brothers BJJ Toowoomba travelled the farthest to test themselves. Jess won double gold (gi & no gi weight). After cutting weight to the lower division, she didn't let the hunger faze her as she proved why she is one of the best female blue belts in the country. Emmanuel lost a very close match to the eventful winner. Emmanuel has had a very good year competing around the country and nationals wasn't his time.
Our two white belt killers coming out of Galeb Brothers HQ, Jase Macalpine & Joao Carlan, went out to give it everything. Jase backed up his double gold at the QLD State titles with another double gold performance, tearing through his gi & no gi divisions and submitting all of his fights (3 x triangles & 1 foot lock). Joao didn't end up on the podium after losing a close first round match. Never disheartened, we either win or learn, on to the next to prepare better and come back stronger.
An awesome weekend down in Melbourne and some great results. A huge thank you to everyone who went to support and helped the crew prepare for the competition. We are more then a team, we are family!
